We wanted to make you aware of new insurance guidelines that allow coverage for Rental or Purchase of Knee Walkers. Colonial Medical Supplies has been successful in coordinating insurance benefits for Aetna and United Healthcare patients to receive a Knee Walker instead of standard crutches after an ankle or foot injury.
The Knee walkers are an excellent replacement for patients who have difficulty using crutches. Patient must be able to bear their own weight on the knee of their injured leg. Knee Walkers are not a substitute for wheelchairs, and cannot be used without minimal coordination, but as an alternative to crutches for an ankle of foot injury there is nothing better.
Convenient option for considering the verdict on whether to buy or rent your knee walker for future use, many people will choose to purchase these devices instead of renting because they last for years and other family members or close friends will need to use them as a better alternative to crutches. This may be a strong motivation to purchase one especially if your insurance provider covers some or all of the cost. It’s hard to resist.
Medicare coverage for the knee walkers remains to be a problem. However, we will continue to seek insurance coverage from additional third party payers including Medicare and Medicaid. Please continue to check our website (www.colonialmed.com) for any updates.
