How Alkaline Water Helps to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy

The kidneys are very vital to our survival. It is important that they function properly, otherwise we will be in big trouble. It is the job of the kidneys to filter all waste products in the blood and eventually transport it to the bladder where it stays for a while, then goes down to the urethra to be expelled out of the body.

Aside from transporting waste fluid out of the body in the form of urine, the kidneys also help in controlling fluid balance in the body.  It also has a role in activating Vitamin D in our system. The pH balance of our body is also controlled by the kidneys. With all these important body functions done by the kidneys, we can’t help but worry if we have a problem with one or both.

Keeping the Kidneys Healthy

The most important thing we need to do to keep our kidneys healthy is to drink a lot of water.  Water means pure water, and not just any other form of colored water. This thing has to be emphasized as a lot of people now-a-days think that they can substitute their need for water with colored drinks. The sad truth is, because of the proliferation of colored drinks, we are tempted to drink them over plain water.  Then again, this has been identified as the main culprit for the rising cases of people having kidney problems.

To keep the kidney healthy, an adequate amount of healthy water should be taken in daily. Alkaline water is a type of healthy water that would help in keeping the kidneys healthy. To know more about alkaline water and its other benefits, visit

What Happens When We Don’t Drink Water

When the body is depleted with water, our blood pressure drops and this causes the kidneys to secrete a hormone known as renin. This hormone increases the production of angiostensin which causes our blood vessels to constrict rapidly and causes the blood pressure to rise.

Although we may drink water, drinking plain water is not enough. Alkaline water is better as it is absorbed better by the body. This is especially beneficial for people who are suffering from chronic dehydration, a health problem which a lot of people have but may not be aware of it.

Keeping the kidneys healthy should be imperative, as well as drinking alkaline water to make sure we are hydrating ourselves properly and doing our best to protect our kidneys from any damage.  It is a very simple thing to do. Just eight glasses of alkaline water per day and we can stay healthy for life.
