Rock climbing has become a nation and even worldwide craze. People are coming to the sport in droves because it offers exercise and excitement at the same time. Do you see the appeal? If not, perhaps you should take a look at exactly rock climbing actually involves. You never know, you may be lining up to be a part of the crowd in no time flat.
Those who have attempted rock climbing before will tell you that it is many things, but easy is not one of those things. Most people, on their first attempt, come away feeling defeated by the sport. What beginners soon realize, whether they try indoor climbing or outdoor climbing, is that this sport requires an incredible amount of physical and mental energy. It is perhaps the most completely demanding sport around.
There are three basic types of rock climbing you can try. The first is called top roping and is perhaps the most common. In top roping you climb with a partner. From the ground, the partner has a rope from his harness up to the top of the rock and then back down to you as you climb. The second type of rock climbing is called lead climbing. In lead climbing you are still with another person and there are still ropes and pulleys. The difference is that the rope is not at the top of the wall, but it is instead hooked into clasps.
The third type of rock climbing is completely different. It is called bouldering, and there are no ropes or harnesses. As a climber, you will likely stay closer to the ground as you climb around and across the rock more than up the rock. There will generally be a route of some sort that you can complete without much resting. In some cases, you will be required to do what rock climbers call a dyno. In a dyno, you leap off the wall and grab onto a hold that is beyond your reach. This is why many will say that bouldering is the most mentally demanding of all the types of rock climbing.
Interestingly, experienced rock climbers will tell you that it is predominantly a leg activity. About three fourths of your work should be done by your legs, and then one fourth by your arms. The key to climbing well is to have solid technique. One major technique rule that you will learn early on is to at all times have three points (each hand and each foot is a point) touching the wall. There is an enormous difference between having your weight on three points as opposed to two. A second rule of technique is to always climb with your feet. Your hands will hold you to the wall, but should never be doing the pulling, and since your legs are stronger, it is a more efficient way to climb anyway. Thirdly, it is important to remember that the closer your body is to the wall the easier it will be for you to climb. With lots of practice, you will see that it is all this thinking and strategy that has helped make rock climbing one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
When you first begin climbing, no matter how well you have been taught technique, it is a good idea to start with one of the first two types. They are easier and by forcing you to have a buddy with you are safer as well. As you develop technique and strength you will find that you can then more easily move into bouldering if that is something you desire to try.
You may feel like rock climbing seems awfully extreme for a regular Joe like you, but it is quite the workout. As you get further into the sport, learn technique, body positions, and even how to shift your weight, you will see that your mental sharpness will improve as well. If you like to get out and work, but also enjoy chess or other strategy games, you will find that rock climbing is right up your alley. It is not enough to be …
Alicia Alonso, Alicia Ernestina de la Caridad del Cobre Martínez Hoya born 21 of December,1920
A year later she performed publicly for the first time in Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. Alonso danced in Cuba under the name of Alicia Martínez.–The dancer’s rapid progress in her lessons came to an abrupt halt in 1937, when the 15-year-old fell in love with a fellow ballet student, Fernando Alonso whom she married. After her marriage she changed her last name to Alonso. The new couple moved to New York City, hoping to begin their professional careers. There they found a home with relatives in the Spanish Harlem section of the city. Alonso soon gave birth to a daughter, Laura, but managed to continue her training at the School of American Ballet and took private classes with Leon Fokine, Alexandra Fedorova, Enrico Zanfretta and Anatole Vilzak.- -She then arranged a travel to London to study with the renowned Vera Volkova.– Meanwhile, her husband had joined the new Mordkin Ballet Company in New York. She had surgery to correct the problem and was ordered to lie in bed motionless for three months to allow her eyes to heal. in 1943 to begin rebuilding her skills. However, before she had barely settled, out of the blue she was asked to dance “Giselle” to replace the ballet Theater’s injured prima ballerina. Alonso accepted and gave such a performance that the critics immediately declared her a star. She was promoted to principal dancer of the company in 1946 and danced the role of Giselle until 1948, also performing in Swan Lake, Anthony Tudor’s Undertow (1943), Balanchine’s Theme and Variations (1947), and in such world premieres as deMille’s dramatic ballet Fall River Legend.- (1948), in which she starred as the Accused. By this time in her career, she had developed a reputation as an intensely dramatic dancer, as well as an ultra-pure technician and a supremely skilled interpreter of classical and romantic repertories. Alonson’s long time partnership with, Youskevitch, have many times been compared to to that of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Alicia was afflicted with an eye defect and was partially blind after she turned 19. Soon she had her partners be in the spot she expected them to be. She also used lights in different parts of the stage to guide her too.
After seeing the doctor for worsening vision problems, Alonso was diagnosed in 1941 with a detached retina.-
Unable to comply completely, Alonso practiced with her feet alone, pointing and stretching to, as she put it, “keep my feet alive.” When the bandages came off, Alonso was dismayed to find that the operation had not been completely successful. The doctors performed a second surgery, but its failure caused them to conclude that the dancer would never have peripheral vision.
Finally, Alonso consented to a third procedure in Havana, but this time was ordered to lay completely motionless in bed for an entire year. She was not permitted to play with Laura, chew food too hard, laugh or cry, or move her head. Her husband sat with her every day, using their fingers to teach her the great dancing roles of classical ballet. From Women in World History, Alonso later recalled of that period, “I danced in my mind. Blinded, motionless, flat on my back, I taught myself to dance Giselle.“
Finally, she was allowed to leave her bed, although dancing was still out of the question. Instead, she walked with her dogs and, against doctor’s orders, went to the ballet studio down the street every day to begin practicing again. Then, just as her hope was returning, Alonso was injured when a hurricane shattered a door in her home, spraying glass splinters onto her head and face. Amazingly, her eyes were not injured. When her doctor saw this, he cleared Alonso to begin dancing, figuring that if she could survive an explosion of glass, dancing would do no harm.
Nearly mad with impatience and still partially blind, Alonso traveled back to New York
to found her own company, the Alicia Alonso Ballet Company, which she maintained with little financial support, this company eventually became The Ballet National of Cuba.-
Are diet plans healthy? In recent times, there has been an explosion of diet plans. With the increasing number of overweight people looking for quick solutions to their weight problems, there is a proliferation of diet plans, each working at a tangent with the others. If you need to lose weight, then it helps to know the lowdown on diet plans. This will let you identify the right diet plan for your body type and purpose.
The most popular diet plan you come across is the fad diet. This diet recommends elimination of certain categories of food from your diet. It depends on stringent calorie cuts to help you achieve weight loss. Fad diets are unhealthy because they do not fulfill the nutritional needs of your body. This is the reason why fad diets often lead to food cravings, binging and yo-yo dieting.
Healthy diet plans, on the other hand, recommend the development of healthy eating patterns. Healthy eating is important for the body. Balanced food provides all the vital nutrients that your body needs. This gives you the energy to keep your body working in top condition. Your bones, muscles, tendons, heart and brain work at their optimum when the body receives sufficient amounts of energy. Healthy diet plans ensure that provide everything your body needs through your food intake.
To decide whether a diet plan is healthy, you have to run it through the following parameters:
- Does it provide you with sufficient nutrients for your daily needs?
- Does the diet allow you to take in commonly available foodstuffs?
- Is he diet plan based on heatlhy eating principles?
- Does the diet plan try to bring about long-term changes in your eating pattern?
- Do you have the freedom to select the kind of food you want to eat?
- Does the diet plan educate you on the calorific value of food?
- Is the diet plan sustainable in the long-run?
Healthy diet plans consider diet control as being only one part of the weight loss solution. They recommend that you follow regular exercise pack turns in order to achieve long-term weight loss. This ensures that your new eating patterns and your physical activity levels become a normal part of your life. Only then can you hope to lose weight in the long-run.
Some healthy diet plans also recommend the use of certain natural herbal supplements that make it easy for you to restrict your calorie intake, without developing the negative effects associated with calorie restriction. Whether you should use them or not is a matter of personal choice. But since these supplements speed up the weight loss process, they could often keep your diet from failing miserably. …
You’re not here to read a long winded article, so here is a royalty free wellness newsletter article I authored below that you can use without any attribution. I know you’re on the hunt, so let’s get this need out of the way, and below, let me give you three secret sources for more free wellness newsletter articles and ideas. First, here is the article:
Keep a Stress Management Arsenal Handy
It only makes sense to have a set of different strategies for coping with stress. Rather than
hoping stress will dissipate, turn to strategies that keep you on the offense, facing it head
on. Experiment with these different approaches and make them part of your personal
plan: (1) Avoid it. Simply put, avoid stress by choosing (or not choosing) certain
behaviors to steer clear of it. Working on your tax returns early instead of on April 14 is a
good example. (2) Change the view. Physically alter your environment—go outside,
switch rooms, take a drive. (3) Change “the filter.” The filter is how you decide to view a
stressful incident. Got a flat tire? Make it a positive opportunity to show your teenager
how to change it. (4) Choose a different tool. Instead of heading for the refrigerator to
manage stress, try a walk, breathing exercises, a hot bath, or even a cup of chamomile tea
and calm music. (5) Use countermeasures. Get more sleep, improve your diet, exercise,
or meditate. Countermeasures help you fight fire with fire by improving your stamina or
ability to cope with stress.
Now for the three secret sources. The first is USA.gov. Any content produced and authored by or under contract with the U.S. Federal Government may be used for non-proprietary purposes without violating copyright restrictions if you give proper attribution. USA.gov is your portal to almost any topic you can possibly imagine.
Another source for articles that you can reproduce for your employees or even employees of companies you service without any fear of copyright infringement and without having to mention the article source can be found usually the first few links when you search “editable newsletter articles” on the the Internet. If you purchase content from a content writer, do not pay an arm and a leg. Some of these folks will make the cost of your newsletter prohibitive. Find article sources for say, $9.95 an article. Be sure the free wellness newsletter articles and ideas you find on the Internet are exciting enough to motivate your employee readers to actually pick up the publication. If you do some research, you will discover content and article ideas that meet their needs. Do surveys to find out. Don’t give employees what you think they need in the way of wellness newsletter articles. Give them what they want. It is marketing 101 and it pertains to wellness newsletter article content too.…

Obtaining a perfect waste line with sculpted abs is a very difficult thing to accomplish. There are plenty of people though who are in high pursuit of perfect abs but fail because they work at it all wrong. To obtain a six pack and shape your abs will require the right type of exercises for your abs and the proper diet and eating habits.
When you are able to work out the right exercises for your abs and tie those in with a healthy diet, then and only then will you be able to start seeing some rapid results. Contact a professional dietitian for advice on what foods you should and should not eat. This will be the most important aspect to develop good looking abs. Here are few exercises for abs you can use to get started.
It's best to start working your lower abs first. They are the toughest to pinpoint and will work the obliques and upper abs as well when you begin to exercise them. Exercise for your lower abs would include leg raises and reverse crunches.
To do the leg raises correctly, start off by laying on your back with your hands under your bottom. Raise your legs so they are completely vertical at a 90 degree angle. Tighten and contract your abs as you lower your legs to just a few inches off the floor. Hold that for a few seconds then slowly raise your legs back up to the starting position. Repeat until exhaustion.
To do reverse crunches correctly, start off in the same position as your leg raises, legs up hands under your bottom. Then bend your knees at a 90 degree angle and contract your abs to tighten your belly. Lower your legs to just a few inches off the floor, hold for a brief second then bring your knees to your chest and really concentrate on working and contracting the abs. Repeat until exhaustion.
Some exercises for your upper abs would include crunches and the butterfly.
To do crunches correctly, start off by laying on your back and put your hands behind your head. Raise your shoulder blades off the ground just a few inches and focus on the ceiling. You do not have to come all the way up. Just come up enough to feel the upper abs contract then lower and relax.
For the butterfly ab exercise, start off just as if you were going to do a normal crunch but let your knees drop off to the side and keep your heels together. With your legs bent, perform a crunch, hold the contraction, then return to the starting position.
These exercises for abs are designed to build a strong midsection. Keep in mind though that no matter how strong your abs are, they will not show without a lean midsection which will come with a healthy diet. …
Here are 2 free diet plans that work. They are very basic, but make no mistake about it … they're proven effective to lose weight. You do not even need to do these diet exactly as I'm outlining them. Use these as a guide and make a plan that fits you better. Read this now so you can stop this weight loss struggle STARTING TODAY.
Free Diet Plans that Work
1. The protein shake diet
This may not be suitable for everyone. But if YOU are truly serious about losing weight fast AND in a safe manner, this works quite good. You can literally lose 20 pounds in a month if you're strict on this. Basically, all you do is drink protein shakes all day. Women generally drink 4 of them … men, 5. A key to remember is to add some fiber to them to keep you feeling filled up. For this, I recommend using flaxmeal. In a nutshell, that's it.
Two things to keep in mind with this type of diet. Your carbs are limited if you do not add something like a banana or apple into the protein shakes. So I would eat 1-2 apples as snacks while using this plan. Also, you're low on fats in the diet. I suggest you add 1 tablespoon of Virgin Olive Oil to 2 of your protein shakes to get some good fats into this plan.
2. The eggs and black bean diet
Basically, this diet revolves around you eating eggs or 1/2 can of black beans at your meal. So if you eat 3 meals, one of those things needs to be at each of those meals. So you do not feel suffocated, you can choose. The black beans are high in protein and fiber while the eggs are high in protein. Both choices fill you up, are cheap, and are healthy for you. I personally use this type of diet often. I love it.
These are 2 free diet plans that work … use them or adjust them if you're looking for nice and easy weight loss. …
The Bonsai Ficus Ginseng Plant is also known as Taiwan Ficus or Banyan Fig.
One of the attractions of this particular ginseng plant is of course the roots which are usually exposed. Along with a thickish trunk and a canopy of dark green leaves it is a most attractive plant, creates a wonderful display in the home and is so easy to look after. This makes it ideal for newcomers to indoor plant keeping especially as it is very low maintenance.
Caring For The Bonsai Ficus Ginseng
Although the bonsai can tolerate low light environments well, it does thrive much better in well lit environments and natural sunlight. So it is important to site the plant beside a window which receives lots of light for as much of the day as possible. I turn my own Ficus Ginseng by one quarter turn to the right each day so the whole ginseng plant has its fair share of the sun.
This bonsai tree does need a little tender loving care. It does need moderate watering in the winter, and I have had good results by feeding the potted soil with tomato plant liquid feed of all things. (Don’t overdo this) Obviously, a little more water will be needed during the warmer summer season and less during the winter season.
The bonsai ficus ginseng does not mind being overwatered once in a while nor does it take offense when you forget to water it sometimes. It will however thrive more when misted regularly to mimic its rainforest home conditions. I do this daily using an old aerosol spray, and where possible I use rainwater rather than tap water which tends to contain Fluoride in this Country and I’m not sure this is good for the plant. Boiling tap water first may be another solution.
The bonsai tree is basically a slow grower although this will depend on the condition of the plant and obviously on its environment. Repotting the bonsai plant depends on growth, so you may have to do this annually or bi-annually. I have had my ficus ginseng for about 6 months and growth is slow, so there is plenty of time to think about re-potting at a future time.
As for the soil, the plant does not seem too fussed and I have just used the soil which was in the pot when I bought the ginseng plant. Fertilizers may be added but the bonsai ficus ginseng is a good grower and can survive in lean conditions. (Try the tomato liquid fertilizer trick mentioned earlier)
The bonsai ficus ginseng tree is an easy tree to care for and you will not need to constantly monitor its state. At first you may be worried at the alarming habit the Ficus has of dropping its leaves daily. Look closely however at the plant and you will see that for all the dark green leaves which have been discarded, there will be a roughly equal number of light green new growth leaves to replace them.
The leaves of the bonsai ficus ginseng will need to be pinched when there are more than necessary to make a good looking crown. For every six new leaves that come out, you need to pinch off at least two or three to maintain its beauty and symmetry.
Overall the bonsai ficus ginseng is a hardy tree that is great for novices and beginners!…

Every mom's wish is to have a happy and healthy family. We try to feed our kids healthy foods but how much exercise are they actually getting. No, going from the fridge to the couch is not exercising (my kids tried that one on me!) So, we sat down as a family and thought up some fun ways to exercise at home. It's a great way to spend time with the kids, have a good laugh and best of all … It's Free!
Big Balloon Parachute
Inflate 8-10 medium to large size balloons (PARENTS: Always inflate the balloons yourself because they are a choking hazard to children)
Place balloons in the center of an old bed sheet and have kids grab the sides of the sheet. The goal is to toss the balloons up and down without any falling on the floor. This is good exercise for those little biceps and triceps!
Run a piece of electrical tape in a straight line across the floor. Have kids take turns walking heal to toe across the "Beam". Another option is to have them hop on one foot across the beam, change feet and hop back. If the fall too far off the beam have them get back in line and start over.
Limbo, Limbo, Limbo!
Tie a streamer between two chairs spread about 4ft apart. Put on some fun music.Have a ball! Okay, so this may not be considered exercise but it is considered fun. Go with it!
Fill two 16oz plastic bottles with dried beans, sand or water (if you're brave)
Place one in each hand and see who can do the most lifting.
Tie a thick string between two heavy chairs about three feet off the floor. Place an old bed sheet over the string. Inflate a large balloon and let the kids stand on opposite sides of the sheet hitting the balloon back and forth until it hits the floor.
If you like you can offer some kind of reward for the winners. Something like a sticker or whatever you feel is appropriate.
Show your kids that exercise does not have to be hard. It can actually be quite fun and with some of the above activities they will not even realize that they are getting any exercise. You also need to remember that if you keep things light and fun, your kids will want to keep doing them. …
