You Have To Tear Muscle To Build It

Okay, we all know that the quickest way to build muscle is to use progressive weight training.

Progressive means that as soon as you get used to lifting a certain amount of weight, you add a little more. Over time, you’ll get stronger because your muscles adapt by getting larger to handle the added weight.

Our bodies adapt to whatever stress we regularly put it through. When you lift weights, what you’re doing is actually tearing the muscle tissue in a healthy way. When you eat the proper nutrition, mostly protein, they’ll actually repair themselves. In fact, they get stronger and bigger without lifting more weight.

As you continue to lift more weight, your muscles will keep adapting to this increased overload. So they get bigger.

But one thing you may not know, is, lifting weights actually causes muscle fiber damage. And this microscopic damage needs to heal properly if you’re going to gain any muscle.

There are type A and type B fibers in your muscles.

Let’s say the higher repetitions might tear the type B so heavier weights will tear them and bring them back stronger. Some people are fast switch and some people are slow switch.

Fast switch responds to high reps, mostly between 8-12 repetitions. Slow switch will respond to slower reps between 4 and 6.

Every body has a different buildup. Let’s say, for example, my bicep is 90% fast switch and 10% slow switch. I would need to do mainly high repetitions for my bicep.

You, on the other hand, might be 90% slow switch and 10% fast switch so the approach you would want to take is lower reps.

So, in order to build muscle mass, you first have to tear it slightly.

The degree of tearing is directly related to how hard and how long you exercise and what type of exercise you do. Movements in which muscles forcefully contract while they are lengthening will cause the most muscle growth.

These are called “eccentric” contractions, and they provide the resisting action of the muscle such as lowering weights and performing the downward movements in exercises.

When you get the proper nutrition, your body repairs this muscle tissue damage and makes it stronger, for the next time you have to handle this weight.

That’s why you have to first cause slight muscle damage, for new muscle mass to be built.…

A La Jolla, Irvine, Los Angeles and San Diego Biotechnology Attorney’s View of What Biotechnology Can Do for Mankind

If you work in any of the high tech or university medical research areas of Southern California such as La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Los Angeles or Irvine, are involved in agriculture in areas such as Fresno, the Imperial Valley or the Coachella Valley, you may know that biotechnology and patent law are becoming more and more important to your business.

For many individuals, however, whether they live in large cities or areas such as Anaheim, San Diego, Orange County, CA, Santa Ana, Santa Monica, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Oceanside, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, or Garden Grove, biotechnology is a mystery they only hear bad things about on the news.

I’ve been asked, “What is biotechnology really about and does it mean the end of civilization as we know it.”

It is often referred to as genetic engineering, which will cause the average person to go into a sweat fearing that he may have just eaten some genetically altered food for breakfast.

But biotechnology is so much more, and in this writer’s opinion, it is the hope of mankind if it is developed with an abiding respect for nature and a doctor’s creed of ensuring no harm is done.

Today, biotechnology is broken down into four main areas: red biotechnology is applied to the medical field, green biotechnology is applied to agriculture, white biotechnology is in the industrial field and blue refers to the aquatic field.

In the medical field, biotechnology helps develop new medicines, new therapies, and can be used to use normal genes to target or replace defective genes or boost immunity.

In agriculture, biotechnology can be used to boost the yield from crops, reduce the vulnerability of crops to disease or weather, and to increase the nutritional values of foods. It can even be used to improve the taste or texture of foods. A benefit of biotechnology in agricultural applications is to reduce the need for pesticides or other harmful chemicals on crops that go into the nation’s water supply.

A new area in which biotechnology is developing rapidly is in biological engineering such as in the development of bio processes from the laboratory to the manufacturing or industrial scale.

Biotechnology is not without criticisms and raises moral dilemmas. What biotechnology can solve, sometimes produces unwanted results such as residues and super resistant foods that may contaminate other non-genetically modified crops. Cloning has also stirred much controversy each time it is in the news.

But biotechnology in the future may also lead to new ways to clean up contaminated environments and the pollutants and wastes mankind produces. And as the world does harm to its environment, much must also be done to reverse these effects before it is too late.

If you have a biotechnology legal issue in Irvine, Orange County, La Jolla, San Diego, in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Palm Springs or anywhere in Southern California, we have the knowledge and resources to be your California Biotechnology Lawyer and your La Jolla and Irvine Biotechnology Attorney on your case. California Acute Care Hospital Beds on the Decline

<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } A:link { color: #0000ff } –>

“Most people in California don’t even realize that this state has only 1.9 hospital beds per 1,000 people,” says Alan Weinstock an insurance broker at www.MedicareSupplementPlans.com. And he’s right according to a recently released report from the California HealthCare Foundation which indicates that California has 512 hospitals licensed to provide care in the state.

The report which examines the state’s general acute care (GAC) hospitals shows that the number of hospitals and beds decreased between 2001 and 2007 while the state’s population grew. Californians who are 80 and older, Medicare beneficiaries or not, use the hospital services the most.

In fact of the ten most populous states, California is in the worst shape. Two of the most populous states – New York and Pennsylvania – have 3.2 beds per 1,000 people. While the seven others – Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Michigan and Texas – have between 2.4 and 2.9 beds per 1,000 people.

Unfortunately some of the difficulty has been the number of hospitals that have closed in California over the last ten years. Over 50 emergency rooms closed in California between 1998 and 2007 (Los Angeles Times). And many hospitals lament that due to the large volume of Medicare and Medi-Cal patients, patients on managed care or the indigent who don’t pay it is difficult to stay financially solvent.

Another reason for California hospital closure and, therefore, fewer hospital beds, is the number of hospital projects statewide that have been delayed due to issues with compliance with state seismic regulations. However, there are positive reasons for the lower bed-to-patient ratio in the state.

First, the California HealthCare Foundation report notes that California has fewer admissions per 1,000 people compared with the rest of the nation. In fact, while the national admission rate dropped from 119 to 117 between 2001 and 2007, in California admission rates dropped from 98 to 90.

“The report also noted that there has been a shift to more outpatient care which helped slow the growth in inpatient utilization,” notes Alan. “That’s especially good news for Medicare beneficiaries who have Medicare Part B as it may be an indication of a decline in serious illnesses.” Medicare Part B pays for outpatient services like X-rays, emergency room visits, partial hospitalization services in hospital outpatient departments and community mental health centers.

For California seniors who are looking for the best Medicare supplement plan for their current needs, there are answers at http://www.MedicareSupplementPlans.com, a website designed to provide seniors with the opportunity to compare rates, plans and benefits from several prominent insurance companies.…

Gain Muscle Supplement – Do You Need These For Maximum Bulk?

When you decide to try to increase your muscle mass, there is much to consider.  From proper workout technique to diet to nutritional supplements, it’s important that your body is conditioned for the intense workouts.  If you are choosing to make this your main fitness objective, considering a gain muscle supplement might aid in your efforts.

There are wide arrays of things you can do to increase muscle-building efforts.  A major component is of course diet.  Without the proper amounts of protein and carbohydrates, you won’t be able to build muscle and could actually damage your body.  It’s a good idea to look into supplements that can support these efforts as well.  A major tool in muscle growth is protein.  There are many protein supplements that can serve as gain muscle supplements.  Proteins are amino acids, which are the basic building blocks of muscles.  So, you should plan to consume 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight.  Adding a supplement like whey or soy can enhance your gain as well.

Another great supplement to consider is Creatine.  Creatine increases muscle mass, and is naturally occurring in the body, which means it’s safe for anyone to take.  In order for it to be most effective, it should be cycled.  In other words, you should take it for 4 weeks, then take 2 weeks off and repeat the cycle.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid found in muscle tissue and helps prevent muscle wasting.  These qualities make it another great gain muscle supplement.  With many more supplements to choose from, it’s relatively easy to stay on track to muscle gain with just a little research and a lot of effort.
You must always keep in mind proper nutrition when taking on such heavy workouts, and supplements are a great way to compliment a healthy diet.…

Wisconsin Cuts $600 Million From Medicaid Budget, Still Faces Deficit

The top Wisconsin health official said Thursday that the state is “on track to cut more than $600 million from Medicaid, but even with those reductions, high demand from the poor for insurance benefits could result in up to a $150 million shortfall.”

Karen Timberlake, secretary of the Department of Health Services, said the 66 areas targeted for cuts include delaying payments into the budget next year, increasing generic drug usage, reducing rural hospital reimbursement payments and rebidding contracts for state health care programs. At the same time, the state expects a $150 million budget shortfall because of increasing demand under the state children’s insurance program, BadgerCare Plus (Bauer, 12/17).

The jobs bill passed by Congress this week could help provide up to $490 million during 2011 and 2012 for Wisconsin’s Medicaid program, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. “The Legislature’s non-partisan budget office said earlier this week that the BadgerCare Plus Medicaid program had 700,000 participants as of Nov. 30, which is far above the average 638,000 expected for the year” (Stein, 12/17).

Washington is getting federal “bonus” money to help its health care program for low-income children. “On Thursday, officials announced that Washington was among nine states getting extra federal money for meeting performance goals. Washington’s cut is $7.5 million,” The Associated Press/Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports (12/17).

California’s state insurance program for the children of the working poor was granted a reprieve by federal authorities, who are considering whether to allow a funding mechanism that helps cover the costs of 700,000 children in the program, the Los Angeles Times reports. “That will allow the state’s Healthy Families program to continue operating under a plan adopted by the Legislature in September and signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The $196-million plan included raising about $100 million with a 2.35% tax on health insurance firms serving the poor, a scheme that federal officials had said might not meet regulatory muster” (Bailey, 12/18).

In other Medicaid news, New York authorities say they’ve settled Medicaid fraud claims “against three home health agencies accused of using hundreds of aides without required training to provide care for elderly, frail and indigent New Yorkers,” The Associated Press reports in a separate story. The agencies will return $24 million to Medicaid (12/17).

Finally, in Pennsylvania, the Secret Service Thursday began helping an investigation into the “alleged theft of patient records from the University of Pennsylvania Health System” where records were used to create credit card accounts that ran up about $3,000 in charges, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. “A spokeswoman for the health system said yesterday that 18 medical records had been compromised but that all the victims had been notified and had been offered help repairing their credit issues.” A suspect has been arrested in the case (Campisi, 12/18).…
